Staff Selection Commission, Combined Graduate Level exam · 7th CPC pay levels 4 to 8 · DA 60% from January 2026
The Combined Graduate Level exam fills more than 30 kinds of post in central ministries, the income tax and customs departments, audit and accounts offices, and agencies such as the CBI and NIA. Posts at level 8 are Group B gazetted, posts at levels 6 and 7 are Group B non-gazetted, and posts at levels 4 and 5 are Group C. Each post has its own pay level, so the post you choose decides your salary as much as your rank does.

Income Tax Inspector salary breakdown
At the first cell of level 7 (basic ₹44,900) in an X class city, gross pay is ₹91,070 a month. NPS takes 10% of basic + DA, which leaves ₹83,826 in hand.

Income Tax Inspector salary in X, Y and Z cities
HRA is 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay depending on where you are posted, and transport allowance is higher in 19 big cities. That is why the same post pays differently in Delhi and in a small town.

How Income Tax Inspector salary grows
Basic pay goes up by one cell (about 3%) every year. If there is no promotion, the MACP scheme moves you to the next pay level after 10, 20 and 30 years of service. Promotions usually come sooner and pay more. The table uses today's DA of 60%; DA will keep rising and the 8th Pay Commission will revise every figure.

No fitment factor is official yet. At a factor of 2.28, the level 7 starting pay of ₹44,900 would become ₹1,02,372. DA restarts at 0% when a new pay commission begins, so the rise in take-home pay is smaller than the rise in basic pay.

Allowances and deductions
- Dearness Allowance: 60% of basic pay, revised every January and July.
- House Rent Allowance: 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay by city class. It is not paid if you live in government accommodation, and a small licence fee is deducted instead.
- Transport Allowance, with DA on it.
- Other benefits that are not part of monthly pay: Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, medical care and paid leave.
- Deductions: 10% of basic + DA for NPS (or UPS, if you opt for it), CGEGIS, income tax, and in some states professional tax. CGHS (₹250 to ₹1,000 a month) applies only in CGHS cities and is not deducted here.
