EPF calculator
For salaried employees in EPF. Enter your basic pay + DA. The calculator splits each month's PF the way EPFO does at the ₹25,000 wage ceiling in force since 17 September 2026, grows the balance at 8.25% (the rate for 2025-26) and estimates your EPS pension.
8.25% is the interest rate for 2025-26. PF wages are basic pay + DA; HRA and most allowances are left out, but under the labour codes allowances above half of your pay count as wages.

How your PF builds up
Every month 12% of your basic pay + DA goes into your PF account, and your employer pays another 12%. Of the employer's share, 8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000 (at most ₹2,083 a month) goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), and the rest goes to your PF account. EPFO adds interest once a year, worked out on the balance month by month. Contributions to EPS stop at 58, and from then the employer's whole 12% goes to EPF.
What the ₹25,000 wage ceiling changes
Many employers pay PF only on wages up to the statutory ceiling. That ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 on 17 September 2026, so if your basic + DA is above ₹15,000 and your employer caps PF, more now goes into PF and your take-home pay falls by the same amount. For basic + DA of ₹32,000:
| Per month | Until 16 Sep 2026 | From 17 Sep 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Your PF (12%) | ₹1,800 | ₹3,000 |
| Employer to EPF | ₹550 | ₹917 |
| Employer to EPS | ₹1,250 | ₹2,083 |
| Into your PF account | ₹2,350 | ₹3,917 |
If your employer already pays PF on your full basic + DA, nothing changes except that more of the employer's share goes to EPS. Read EPF explained for the details of the change.
EPF interest rates
| Financial year | Interest rate |
|---|---|
| 2025-26 | 8.25% |
| 2024-25 | 8.25% |
| 2023-24 | 8.25% |
| 2022-23 | 8.15% |
| 2021-22 | 8.1% |
EPFO's Central Board of Trustees recommends the rate for each financial year, and it applies once the government ratifies it. Interest is worked out on the monthly running balance: a month's contributions earn interest from the following month, and the year's interest is added to the account at the end of the year. The calculator uses the latest rate for every future year; change it to see other rates.
EPS pension
EPS pays a monthly pension from 58 after at least 10 years of service: pensionable salary × pensionable service ÷ 70. Pensionable salary is the average wages of the last 60 months, capped at the ceiling that applied to each period of service: ₹6,500 before September 2014, ₹15,000 until 16 September 2026 and ₹25,000 since. Twenty or more years of service add two years of weightage, and the minimum pension is ₹1,000 a month. The calculator assumes the ceiling stays at ₹25,000. Read EPS pension and the higher pension option.
Tax
Your own PF contribution counts for the section 80C deduction in the old regime. Interest is tax-free except on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year, and withdrawals are tax-free after five years of continuous service. See how EPF is taxed.

Frequently asked questions
What is the EPF interest rate for 2025-26?
8.25%. EPFO's Central Board of Trustees recommends the rate for each financial year and the government ratifies it; it is credited to accounts after the year ends.
How is EPF interest calculated?
On the monthly running balance: the balance at the end of each month earns one month's interest at the yearly rate ÷ 12, so a month's contribution starts earning from the next month. The year's interest is added once, at the end of the financial year.
How much of the employer's 12% goes to my PF account?
Whatever is left after 8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000 goes to EPS: at the ceiling, ₹917 of ₹3,000. If you are not in EPS, or after 58, the whole 12% goes to your PF account.
Will the new wage ceiling reduce my take-home pay?
Only if your employer pays PF on capped wages and your basic + DA is above ₹15,000. Your PF can then rise by up to ₹1,200 a month, and take-home pay falls by the same amount, while your retirement savings grow faster.
Is the EPS pension in this calculator exact?
No, it is an estimate. EPFO works out pension from your actual service record and wages, and the higher-pension option changes it for those who were granted it.
