GPF interest calculator
For central government employees on the old pension, who subscribe to the General Provident Fund. Enter your balance on 1 April and your monthly subscription. The rate is 7.1% for October to December 2026.
Each subscription counts from the 1st of the month after the month whose pay it is cut from (March pay, paid on 1 April, counts from April), so a year's 12 subscriptions earn 12, 11 … 1 months. The year runs from April to March.

How GPF interest is calculated
Rule 11 of the General Provident Fund (Central Services) Rules, 1960 sets out the method, and the calculator follows it:
- The balance on 31 March of the previous year earns interest for all 12 months, less any amount withdrawn during the year.
- A subscription recovered from pay counts from the first day of the month it is recovered in, or from the 1st of the next month when that month's pay is paid on its last working day, as central government pay usually is. Either way, a year's 12 subscriptions earn interest for 12, 11, 10 … 1 months.
- A withdrawal earns interest only up to the last day of the month before it is taken.
- Interest is rounded to the nearest rupee and credited to the account at the end of the financial year, on 31 March.
GPF interest rate
The Department of Economic Affairs sets the GPF rate every quarter, for GPF and the similar funds of the defence services, railways and all-India services. It is 7.1% for October to December 2026, and has stayed at 7.1% every quarter since April 2020. When the rate changes during a year, each month earns at the rate for its quarter; enter an average rate here to approximate it.
