CBIC Inspector salary 2026: Excise Inspector, Preventive Officer and Examiner
Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, recruited through SSC CGL · 7th CPC pay level 7 · DA 60% from January 2026
CBIC Inspectors work in GST and central excise (Inspector), customs preventive work (Preventive Officer) or customs examination (Examiner). All three are Group B non-gazetted posts at level 7.

How Excise Inspector salary grows
Basic pay goes up by one cell (about 3%) every year. If there is no promotion, the MACP scheme moves you to the next pay level after 10, 20 and 30 years of service. Promotions usually come sooner and pay more. The table uses today's DA of 60%; DA will keep rising and the 8th Pay Commission will revise every figure.

No fitment factor is official yet. At a factor of 2.28, the level 7 starting pay of ₹44,900 would become ₹1,02,372. DA restarts at 0% when a new pay commission begins, so the rise in take-home pay is smaller than the rise in basic pay.

Allowances and deductions
- Dearness Allowance: 60% of basic pay, revised every January and July.
- House Rent Allowance: 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay by city class. It is not paid if you live in government accommodation, and a small licence fee is deducted instead.
- Transport Allowance, with DA on it.
- Other benefits that are not part of monthly pay: Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, medical care and paid leave.
- Deductions: 10% of basic + DA for NPS (or UPS, if you opt for it), CGEGIS, income tax, and in some states professional tax. CGHS (₹250 to ₹1,000 a month) applies only in CGHS cities and is not deducted here.
