Staff Selection Commission, Constable (GD) exam · 7th CPC pay level 3 · DA 60% from January 2026
The GD Constable exam recruits constables for the central armed police forces (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB) and the Secretariat Security Force, and riflemen for the Assam Rifles. The 2026 notice puts every one of these posts at level 3.

GD Constable salary breakdown
At the first cell of level 3 (basic ₹21,700) in an X class city, gross pay is ₹46,990 a month. NPS takes 10% of basic + DA, which leaves ₹43,488 in hand.

GD Constable salary in X, Y and Z cities

How GD Constable salary grows
Basic pay goes up by one cell (about 3%) every year. If there is no promotion, the MACP scheme moves you to the next pay level after 10, 20 and 30 years of service. Promotions usually come sooner and pay more. The table uses today's DA of 60%; DA will keep rising and the 8th Pay Commission will revise every figure.

GD Constable salary in the 8th Pay Commission
No fitment factor is official yet. At a factor of 2.28, the level 3 starting pay of ₹21,700 would become ₹49,476. DA restarts at 0% when a new pay commission begins, so the rise in take-home pay is smaller than the rise in basic pay.

Allowances and deductions
- Dearness Allowance: 60% of basic pay, revised every January and July.
- House Rent Allowance: 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay by city class. It is not paid if you live in government accommodation, and a small licence fee is deducted instead.
- Transport Allowance, with DA on it.
- Many constables live in barracks or government quarters, where HRA is not paid. Postings in border and difficult areas add risk and hardship allowances, which vary by place and are not included here.
- Other benefits that are not part of monthly pay: Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, medical care and paid leave.
- Deductions: 10% of basic + DA for NPS (or UPS, if you opt for it), CGEGIS, income tax, and in some states professional tax. CGHS (₹250 to ₹1,000 a month) applies only in CGHS cities and is not deducted here.
